Water Sports

Our waterfront is comprised of an Alumadock Docking System. This is an H configuration with 25 yard interior swim lanes. We have starting blocks, turning boards, and lane markers for competitive swimmers.

Our boating fleet consists of 2 war canoes, 12 Old Town ABS canoes, 6 rowboats, 12 kayaks, 4 windsurfers, 2 JY-14’s, 8 sunfish, and 2 brand new Malibu competition inboard ski boats. We also have several utility outboards and an 18 foot inflatable that we exclusively use for tubing and knee boarding.

Our ski docks are nestled in a private cove highlighted by our own slalom ski course.

Swimming

Caribou campers have instructional and elective swim periods. Our curriculum is designed around the American Red Cross certification program. The instruction is facilitated by Red Cross certified swim instructors. A traditional camp “Buddy Board” system is used at Caribou for campers to check in and out of the waterfront. Although our camp is surrounded by water which feels wonderful on warm summer days, the campers and staff all know that we only swim in our designated waterfront area. There are no swim level requirements necessary to participate in either water skiing or boating activities as life vests are always worn for those activities. Due to the fact that we have many accomplished swimmers at Caribou, we have developed additional swim level challenges of our own, for example a lake swim and even a perimeter swim for the truly ambitious. Those campers achieving these high swim levels are recognized and celebrated in our Caribou community.

Sailing

Equipped with a fleet of sail boats, the sailing program teaches Caribou Campers the fundamentals of rigging a sail boat, sailing skills and techniques, and boating safety. In addition to instructional sessions, regattas and recreational sailing round out this program. Intercamp sailing competitions are offered throughout the summer!

Canoes/Kayaks

Camp Caribou has a fleet of high quality canoes as well as a number of very large war canoes. Expert instruction by American Canoe Association Certified Instructors is given daily. Individual skill and stroke development is stressed. Kayaking is also available. Campers who will be going on canoeing/white water rafting trips with the wilderness trip staff will work with the canoe instructors prior to those trips.

Boating

Within our boating program we have instructional and elective opportunities in sailing, canoeing, kayaking, rowing and windsurfing. All of these activities are again taught by staff specialists in their individual areas of expertise. Our campers utilize their boating skills on canoe trips and we host and participate in sailing competitions with other camps. Caribou also has a few paddle boats for afternoon recreation.

Water Skiing/Wake Boarding

Water skiing is extremely popular at Caribou! We run two inboard competition Malibu ski boats all day long. Our ski and wake board staff is top notch. They are talented and experienced and willing to put in the hours necessary to help campers achieve their goals. There are many opportunities throughout the summer to compete in ski and wake board competitions with other camps. Knee boarding, trick skiing and of course the ever famous tubing are all enormously popular as well.

Fishing

Our Caribou boys love to fish! Our lake Pattee is full of great bass, perch, pickerel and of course sunfish. Our waterfront has a special fishing dock area that the campers use. They also take some of the boats out for fishing as well. Caribou campers can elect fishing in the afternoons and join the weekly fishing club. We host our own Caribou fishing derby and participate in inter camp fishing competitions.
