Landsports

The Caribou peninsula has fifteen acres of flat athletic playing fields. We have 2 soccer fields, 2 baseball diamonds, 1 lacrosse field, a large archery range with 17 targets, rifle range, a golf driving range, nine hole chipping course, and a state of the art official whiffle ball, “Fenway Park”, diamond.

Caribou offers 6 tennis courts: 3 red clay and 3 asphalt plexipave hard courts. We also have an official N.H.L. sized outdoor street/roller hockey rink and a six station outdoor basketball facility.

Soccer

Caribou has had a strong soccer program since its establishment and it continues to grow. There are two beautiful fields: a 10 and under 6 vs. 6 field and an official regulation high school field for the 11-15’s. Our staff is a combination of college players and international semi pro players. Caribou’s department boasts superb instructors, great facilities and exciting curriculum.

Baseball

We have two well groomed baseball diamonds.  One is a licensed league field for the 11 and under teams and a full size regular high school field for our 12-15 year olds.  Our instructional program includes soft toss, hitting off the tee, pepper and numerous mini games including “off the fence”. There are also batting cages utilizing Jugs pitching machines.

Lacrosse

Caribou LAX has developed over the years into a thriving program.  Our 15 & 12 and under teams have been tremendously competitive and are constantly improving.  The fields and equipment are top notch and the coaching is professional and exciting.

Archery

Caribou archery is quite advanced at our summer camp.  We have coaches certified by the Olympic training center in Colorado. The kids shoot 5,000 arrows a week at our 17 target mats.  Our staff provides lots of hands on, safe instruction as well as many tournaments for all age groups. Our archery equipment is superior and personally sized to fit each camper.

Rifle Range

We have a 12 person range where the A-17 tournament targets are on pulleys. The pulley system is extremely safe as no one ever has to walk down the range, you reel the targets in and out. The range is a roofed facility and can be used in inclement weather. We host tournaments for the camps in our region and teach the marksmanship program.  Fabulous NRA certified instructors run a safe, exciting productive range.

Golfing

We teach all aspects of putting, driving, chipping and general game etiquette on our 300 yard range and out 9 hole chipping course.  We use the limited flight balls on the 9 hole course and when ready we take our campers to the golf course in Waterville, ME.  Our campers actually compete in the Central Maine camp league tournaments and do very well.

Whiffle Ball

We run the world series of whiffle ball at Caribou every summer and set up many whiffle ball fields for the series tournament all over the camp. We leave the Fenway whiffle ball park set up through the summer.  Whiffle ball is an elective which campers may choose any afternoon.  Everyone loves to “go yard” on the “green monster”.

Tennis

Since 1984 Caribou tennis has been fortunate to have USPTA certified teaching pros from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  These staff members are year round teaching pros who escape the heat of the summer in Mexico and bring their expertise to Maine to work with our Caribou campers. In addition to the group instructional lessons, the staff offers private lessons, clinics, tennis ladders, and runs large scale tournaments at our tennis complex. We also host our own Caribou Invitational Tournament.

Hockey

Caribou has an official college size street hockey rink. We offer instructional street hockey and elective street and roller hockey in the afternoons. All campers wear protective helmets while participating in the hockey program. Caribou has all of the helmets, hockey sticks and goalie equipment already at camp. Street hockey is a fast paced fun sport to watch in our inter camp league competitions.

Basketball

Caribou is fortunate to have a 10,000 square foot gymnasium that is a world class teaching facility.  We have 2 indoor courts, six stations, break a way rim, baskets that lower to 8 feet and phenomenal college players and coaches to impact their knowledge of “the game”.  We also have an outdoor basketball facility which complements the “new gym”.  We host several Central Maine Basketball tournaments and the campers play in the Central Maine league tournaments 15-13-12-11-10 and under age groups.

Boxing

Caribou’s boxing program is one of a kind in camping. Bill Lerman, who was an amateur boxer himself, instituted the program in the mid 70’s and it’s been flourishing ever since. He was trained by Mike Berg, founder and developer of the Academy for Physical and Social Development in Newton, Massachusetts. The program is founded in teaching all of the fundamentals of boxing. The boys learn 8 combinations, 25 different moves and eventually will spar with both the instructors and their peers. All the safety precautions have been taken with the most up to date equipment available. Boxing is an elective program offered each afternoon. It’s a unique form of expression that builds self esteem, confidence and conditioning.

Volleyball

At Caribou we have a beautiful sandy beach volleyball court and a grass court. The campers are given quality instruction is all aspects of the game. We also play Newcomb which is an easier game to play and a more successful avenue to teach younger campers the rules and regulations of volleyball. Inter camp competitions in volleyball are exciting to watch!
